London Fashion Weekend
Back in September 2013, I answered an add on Facebook posted by ”Calumet UK”. They were inviting anyone who had a Canon DSLR the opportunity to shoot from the Photographers pit at Somerset House for London Fashion Weekend ! I applied not expecting anything to become of it, but low and behold, I got a place along with about 40 other photographers ! Some were amateurs like myself and others professional. I’ve only ever shot wildlife and Landscape along with the usual holiday shots, so i wasn’t going to miss this opportunity for anything !
We just had to meet at a hotel nearby and were given a briefing on how best to shoot catwalk shows. The guided camera settings were Manual mode, Shutter speed 1/400, Aperture 5.6, ISO 800 and white balance kelvin 4500. You were advised to try and get the shots were both of the models feet were on the floor, otherwise the shots would look strange. This proved to be true as I ended up with many shots with just one foot on the cat walk.
Following the briefing, we were given our official Lanyards and then escorted over to Somerset House and claimed our spot in the pit ! There was naturally a bit of jostling, but I managed a good spot !
It was a fantastic experience ! We shot 3 shows in all. 1 designer and 2 trend shows. I would definitely do it again given the chance.
